The largest number of victims killed in the Bucha Raion was males aged between 35 and 60 years (44%). Most of the murdered civilians whose cause of death could be established have died as a result of gunshot wounds, the digest of human rights violations, released by the Eastern Ukrainian Center for Civic Initiatives, says.

The Eastern Ukrainian Center for Civic Initiatives (EUCCI) has analyzed information about 395 corpses discovered in the Bucha Raion (Kyiv Oblast). The largest number of these victims was males aged between 35 and 60 years (44%). Overall, 75% of the murdered civilians were males and 25% females.

Most of the killed people whose preliminary cause of death could be established have died as a result of gunshot wounds (to the head, thorax, stomach, limbs and other organs).

For the majority of murdered civilians, however, the cause of death could not be established. The condition of many corpses (decaying, mummified, burned or otherwise disfigured) prevented police forensics specialists from ascertaining the preliminary cause of death. Nevertheless, information about the time, place and/or circumstances of discovering the corpses and a visual analysis of the photographs prove that the death of the absolute majority of these people was caused by factors of war and was related to them. For example, most of 26 burned corpses were found inside cars that were fired at and set ablaze. Some of the corpses were exhumed, in particular (but not solely), from mass graves (for example, a burial site next to the church at vul. Bohdana Khmelnytskoho 7-V in Bucha), and these corpses sustained bullet and/or shell fragment wounds.

The Eastern Ukrainian Center for Civic Initiatives has been documenting human rights violations committed during the Russian aggression against Ukraine since 2014. The purpose of this documentation is to submit the gathered evidence to the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Ukrainian law enforcement authorities, international investigation commissions and other international organizations.
